\"Do<\/p>\n

Almost every week I hear from leaders who are frustrated<\/del> disappointed by the lack of interest for women\u2019s ministry events in their church.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve worked hard to plan and publicize events and yet few commit and even fewer show-up.<\/p>\n

They struggle to find women willing to serve on their team and women to volunteer at events.<\/p>\n

Most are discouraged and many are ready to throw in the towel and walk away from their calling.<\/p>\n

They are desperate to pinpoint the \u201cwhy\u201d so they can do something \u2013 anything \u2013 to turn things around.<\/p>\n

They know their women need Jesus\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve talked before about the logistical reasons that often keep women away<\/strong>. (Read about those here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Today, I want to dig deeper and deal with the heart of the matter.<\/p>\n

We must examine the spiritual reasons women aren\u2019t attending women\u2019s ministry events.<\/h4>\n

As I\u2019ve been recently reading through Acts 8<\/a>, I couldn\u2019t help but notice the stories of Simon and the Eunuch and draw parallels to the very women we serve.<\/p>\n

Both Simon and the Eunuch:<\/h5>\n
    \n
  1. Heard the Gospel<\/li>\n
  2. Saw\/understood the miracles<\/li>\n
  3. Gave a profession of faith in Christ<\/li>\n
  4. Were baptized<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Eunuch was born again, but Simon did not truly know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Acts 8:21 tells us his heart was not right before God.<\/p>\n

    Many, if not most, of your women have likely heard the Gospel, understood the miracles (Jesus\u2019 resurrection), have given a profession of faith, and have been baptized. But like Simon, some have a heart that is not right before God.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Some of your women aren\u2019t interested in women\u2019s ministry events and activities because they have never fully accepted Christ as their Savior. (See Titus 1:16<\/a> and Matthew 15:8<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

    Sometimes we are able to see that God is not a priority or force of change in their life.<\/h5>\n

    Quoting a date, time, and place does not equal salvation. Some prayed out of a sense of duty, succumbed to peer pressure, or came forward without a repentant heart. They may never have experienced the prick of conviction or the draw of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

    Your women may profess to know God, but may not really know Him at all.<\/h5>\n

    I say this with confidence because I was one of these women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Throughout my teens and most of my 20\u2019s I thought I knew who God was. I grew up reciting the Apostle\u2019s Creed, but it wasn\u2019t heart knowledge.<\/p>\n

    I was lacking that personal experience with God.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    While the Bible is clear that only God knows the heart (1 Samuel 16:7<\/a>), we can look for signs that our women have a personal relationship with God. (Check out the Women\u2019s Ministry Health Assessment<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

    Let\u2019s examine the barriers that keep our women from women\u2019s ministry events and formulate a plan to overcome those barriers.<\/p>\n

    7 Spiritual Barriers that Keep our Women from Women\u2019s Ministry Events<\/h4>\n
    1. They lack a personal relationship with God\/Christ.<\/h5>\n

    They may have the head knowledge, but don\u2019t have the heart knowledge.<\/p>\n

    2. They\u2019ve walked away from Christ.<\/h5>\n

    We could call it the ex-boyfriend syndrome. They used to love Him, used to think about Him constantly, and used to spend time with Him almost daily but not anymore.<\/p>\n

    3. They embrace a part-time Savior.<\/h5>\n

    When it\u2019s convenient, when they are convicted, and when they are in crisis, then they seek His help. They may attend church every couple of Sunday mornings, but there\u2019s no active relationship.<\/p>\n

    4. An idol has taken Christ\u2019s place in their life.<\/h5>\n

    Something or someone \u2013 could be exercise, caring for their children, an aging parent, a job, social media \u2013 has overtaken the time they once spent with Christ.<\/p>\n

    5. Their calendars have little to no space for God.<\/h5>\n

    They hold high the banner of busy and don\u2019t trust God with their calendar or clock. God has the power to expand time and increase our energy so we can get everything needed complete if we ask. Our women have succumbed to the pull of the society to overschedule their lives and their children\u2019s lives because they are afraid of missing out. Not realizing that they are truly missing out.<\/p>\n

    6. They do not know what the Word says.<\/h5>\n

    They do not know or understand what scripture teaches about being in community with other believers, serving others, and engaging in discipleship. They may never have been taught about the importance of spiritual disciplines and practices.<\/p>\n

    7. They have quenched the Holy Spirit.<\/h5>\n

    Rather than tuning into God\u2019s whispers, they\u2019ve turned up the volume on the things of this world. Because they aren\u2019t spending time in prayer and time in God\u2019s Word, they aren\u2019t hearing from the Lord as often. As His voice gets softer and less frequent, the voices of the world drown Him out. Some have physically quenched the Holy Spirit with drugs, alcohol, and other addictions.<\/p>\n

    As the faces of your women come to mind, you may be able to pinpoint the barriers keeping some of your women away.<\/p>\n

    Now that we\u2019ve identified the issues, how do we get our women to a place where they want Jesus more<\/strong> than they want the very thing(s) that have taken His place?<\/p>\n

    What do we do?<\/h4>\n
    1. We must pray with urgency and fervency.<\/h5>\n

    Lives literally hang in the balance. We\u2019ve got to pray for soften hearts, scaled to be removed, ears to hear, and people to proclaim God\u2019s Truths.<\/p>\n

    2. We must be winsome.<\/h5>\n

    We\u2019ve got to be intentional about creating community<\/a> and making certain every single woman feels welcome<\/a> so she wants to come back.<\/p>\n

    3. We need to meet their physical needs so they can be present to have their spiritual needs met.<\/h5>\n

    This may mean offering childcare, scheduling evening events for working women, respecting their time so they can return home as scheduled.<\/p>\n

    4. We teach them what God\u2019s Word says and we make it easy for them to take action.<\/h5>\n

    Provide workshops on how to read the Bible<\/a>, how to pray<\/a>, and how to share your faith<\/a>. Give them lots of opportunities to serve others. Offer in-depth Bible studies with an emphasis on application. Help them to form or find discipling relationships with other women.<\/p>\n

    5. We model the very things we long to see from our women.<\/h5>\n

    Show up every Sunday possible. Participate in a weekly Bible study. Share scripture on social media. Let your women see you living out your faith and the joy that it brings!<\/p>\n

    6. We teach our women to be discerning<\/a>.<\/h5>\n

    Some of the things our women are reading and listening to don\u2019t align with God\u2019s Word, but they have been lead to believe it does. False prophets are whispering in the ears of our women constantly \u2013 are we batting those lies back with the Truth?<\/p>\n

    7. Pour into a small group of women.<\/h5>\n

    This might be your women\u2019s ministry team or a smaller discipleship group. Gather women who are interested but in need of some spiritual spurring. Study and discuss the Bible together. Most of our women struggle to talk about the Bible and what God\u2019s doing in their lives because they lack practice. (The READ Bible study for Groups<\/a> is perfect for this!) Help them become strong in the spiritual disciplines and then send them out to train and encourage others.<\/p>\n

    8. We must give women an opportunity to respond to the Gospel.<\/h5>\n

    You can talk about Christ and what\u2019s it\u2019s like to live a Christ-focused life until you\u2019re blue in the face, but if you haven\u2019t told women HOW to become a follower of Christ it\u2019s all for naught!<\/p>\n

    Don\u2019t fall for Satan\u2019s lies that women aren\u2019t ready to hear \u2013 they may not be ready to respond \u2013 but they expect to hear about God when they are at a church event or they wouldn\u2019t be there. Women are more open to spiritual conversations than we give them credit for \u2013 we allow our fear of failure to keep us from sharing the best news there is!<\/p>\n

    9. Vary the seriousness of your events.<\/h5>\n

    Women who aren\u2019t walking with Christ are unlikely to come to a workshop on discipleship or a Prayer Breakfast. Sad, but true. Plan some events that are fun (consider a Christian comedy event<\/a>) that include the Gospel message. Paint parties<\/a> and Bible journaling<\/a> tend to have great turnouts \u2013 include a brief sharing<\/a> from one of your women about the impact God has made on her life. Give them a glimpse of why Christ and the church make the difficulties in life easier to bear.<\/p>\n

    10. Provide retreats<\/a>.<\/h5>\n

    Most women I know love a good girl\u2019s trip. When we are able to get women to step away from the pulls of the world and set aside their crazy schedules, we can teach them to pause, to listen, and to receive a message from God. Bless them with some free time<\/a> so they can reflect on the message. Throw in some laughter and some fun, but don\u2019t neglect the depth. Allow them to connect with other women in discussion groups<\/a>. Encourage groups to continue meeting after the retreat.<\/p>\n

    Unfortunately, there isn\u2019t a one-size-fits-all solution to increasing the attendance at our women\u2019s ministry events, but we can make changes that encourage attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    We must be intentional to remove the logistical and spiritual barriers that keep our women from coming to women\u2019s ministry events.<\/h5>\n

    Our ministry depends on it.<\/p>\n
