Update: Since writing this post, I’ve had the opportunity to lead this as a Bible Study (book study). Our women LOVED this study! It was not at all what they expected. It challenged them to think differently about hospitality. It was much deeper than they expected too.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Book Review: Just Open the Door by Jen Schmidt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For years I have followed Jen Schmidt on her blog, Balancing Beauty, and Bedlam<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a (then) stay-at-home mom of two young boys struggling more days than not, I was drawn in by her transparency to share real life with a home overflowing with children and animals (now young adults) and stories of the crazy things that happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve gleaned many great ideas over the years from Jen, everything from 10-minute meal ideas<\/a> to frugal fashion tips<\/a>. I\u2019ve laughed about the son who had one of the worst roommate struggles ever<\/a>. I\u2019ve prayed for her as she openly shared their financial struggles in a season of unemployment<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She feels like a dear friend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cornerstone of Jen\u2019s blog and social media accounts has always been one of true, often messy, authentic, hospitality.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When I heard she was writing a book and a Bible study<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t wait to apply for the launch team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just Open the Door: How One Invitation Can Change a Generation<\/a> is a book you need to add to your reading list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, it\u2019s a book you\u2019ll want to dig into with your book club<\/a>, women\u2019s ministry team, and Bible study group too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just Open the Door<\/a> is not just another book on entertaining or reaching out to your neighbors.<\/strong> It goes deeper, digging into the scriptures and examining the impact and legacy that can happen when we open our physical and metaphorical door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Jen says, \u201cBiblical hospitality offers our best to Him first, understanding that our best to others will then fall into place\u2026The posture we assume in hospitality is one that bends low, generously offering our heart to another despite whatever interruption to our own plans or comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though Jen\u2019s primary focus is on hospitality out of one\u2019s heart and one\u2019s home, I couldn\u2019t help but ponder the power of hospitality in women\u2019s ministry.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
