You may have seen it when I shared it on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/womensministrytoolbox\/\">Women&#8217;s Ministry Toolbox Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What God drew my attention to was the 3 questions he asked his team:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>What am I not doing that you would like me to start doing?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What am I doing that you wish I would stop doing?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>And what am I doing that is important to you that I keep doing?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I know the thought of even asking your team those questions may want to make you throw up a little. I am so with you on that!<\/p>\n<p>Stick with me, though, and let\u2019s walk through some ways and reasons we might want to ask God to hold us up as we put ourselves out there.<\/p>\n<h4>Here&nbsp;are three ways we can apply these questions to women\u2019s ministry.<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>If you are the women\u2019s ministry leader or a leader of a team, ask your team those very same questions.<\/li>\n<li>You could tweak them a bit and apply the questions to your ministry<\/li>\n<li>You could tweak them and apply the questions to your women\u2019s ministry team.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You could tweak them like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What should our women\u2019s ministry (or women\u2019s ministry team) start doing that we are not doing now?<\/p>\n<p>What is our women\u2019s ministry (or women\u2019s ministry team) doing that we should stop doing?<\/p>\n<p>What is our women\u2019s ministry team (or women\u2019s ministry team) doing that we should keep doing?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019d even consider taking those questions one step further:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What do you think God is asking our women\u2019s ministry to start doing that we are not doing?<\/li>\n<li>What do you sense God is bringing to an end or asking us to stop doing?<\/li>\n<li>What is our women\u2019s ministry doing that you feel God wants us to continue doing?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So you may be wondering how to collect the responses in the least painful manner possible.<\/p>\n<h4>Let\u2019s weigh some of the pro\u2019s and con\u2019s of anonymous responses.<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Anonymous responses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Often provide more honest answers<\/li>\n<li>That level of honesty sometimes is presented without a filter<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re unable to respond one-on-one to concerns that are mentioned or answer questions someone has. You\u2019ll have to bring them in front of the whole team if you feel it needs to be addressed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Named responses:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The best antonym I could come up with for anonymous.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>People can\u2019t hide from their comments.<\/li>\n<li>Those that are willing to be more transparent will usually do so in a kinder, gentler manner.<\/li>\n<li>Some people won\u2019t answer honestly because they are uncomfortable about sharing their true opinion with you \u2013 whether they want to avoid confrontation, worry about hurting your feelings, or don\u2019t want to deal with any possible fall-out.<\/li>\n<li>You have the ability to address concerns and questions one-on-one.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Logic would say we\u2019re all adults and especially within the church we should be willing and able to bring our concerns to one another. Unfortunately that is not always the case. I suspect almost every one of us has been hurt by someone in the church. Some folks have been hurt so badly or so many times that they\u2019ll no longer put themselves in a position where they can be hurt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6814\" src=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Philippians-2_3and4.png\" alt=\"Philippians 2:3-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Philippians-2_3and4.png 600w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Philippians-2_3and4-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Philippians-2_3and4-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Philippians-2_3and4-500x500.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll have to decide how you want to collect the responses.<\/p>\n<p>And you have to decide how and when you want to respond to the responses.<\/p>\n<p>When you collect responses&nbsp;be sure to give&nbsp;your team members time to think about their response. Give your thinkers time to think and your responses will be richer. (No more than a week, but not less than 48 hours.)<\/p>\n<p>Include the questions on the agenda, ask them to write down their answers and bring them to the meeting, or create an online survey they can complete.<\/p>\n<h4>A few thoughts on constructive criticism (ugh)<\/h4>\n<p>I am impressed by both Eric\u2019s willingness to open himself up to constructive criticism and his desire to improve.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know many people that willingly embrace constructive criticism. It\u2019s often painful and it\u2019s often more criticism than it is constructive.<\/p>\n<p>If we want to improve ourselves and\/or our ministries we\u2019ve got to be willing to make some changes and seek other perspectives as to what changes may need to be made.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got a beta team working through the Prayer Warrior Boot Camp ecourse I\u2019ll launch next month. At the same time I\u2019m going thru an edit of the Bible study curriculum God led me to create for our women last fall. I want and need to know what\u2019s working and what\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve had no choice but to put myself out there.<\/p>\n<p>It is scary and it is hard. Sometimes it\u2019s painful.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s not. (Thank God for the encouragement that many have shared \u2013 it is literally pulling me thru.)<\/p>\n<h4>I really don\u2019t like it, but I know it\u2019s necessary.<\/h4>\n<p>I want the participants of both courses to grow and flourish in their faith and I want to make improvements that allow them to do just that. I need that outside feedback and perspective. The women doing the reviews can see things that I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n<h4>Are you willing to open yourself up and put yourself out there to receive feedback that could improve your leadership and\/or your ministry?<\/h4>\n<p>I encourage you to pray about it. Seek God about the when, where, and the how.
