\"Icebreaker<\/a><\/p>\n

Back in the day there was an icebreaker game called \u201cWhat\u2019s in your purse?\u201d It was a fun game but it no longer works<\/strong> at most women\u2019s ministry events.<\/p>\n

Have you noticed? A lot of your women aren\u2019t carrying purses anymore.<\/p>\n

Now that phone cases can hold credit cards many women have left their pocketbooks at home.<\/p>\n

Times are a changin\u2019 and we\u2019ve got to adapt!<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why I\u2019ve created the \u201cWhat\u2019s on ur phone?\u201d icebreaker game. (Side note: For those who may not use a lot of texting shortcuts, \u201cur\u201d is text-speak for \u201cyour\u201d.)<\/p>\n

Now I know, not all of your women have a smart phone. That\u2019s okay! This game can also be played in teams of two or more. In teams of two, one can record while the other searches their phone.<\/p>\n

This game is bound to bring about some laughter and amazement as women scramble to locate what\u2019s on their phones.<\/p>\n

Note: If your location has spotty internet service or wifi issues – no worries – they won’t be searching online for this game.<\/p>\n

Game:<\/strong> What\u2019s on ur phone?<\/p>\n

Group size:<\/strong> 6+<\/p>\n

Time needed:<\/strong> 10-20 minutes<\/p>\n

Supplies<\/strong>: One \u201cWhat\u2019s on ur phone?\u201d sheet per person or per team; pencils\/pens; one personal smartphone per person or team (see notes).<\/p>\n

Instructions: <\/strong>Print out copies of “What’s on ur phone?”<\/p>\n

What’s on ur phone?<\/a> (Click to open free PDF file)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tell your group that you\u2019ll be going \u201chigh tech\u2019 with today\u2019s game. Each person\/team will have to quickly search their smartphone for a wide variety of photos. Apps, texts, and more. For each item that fits the category listed, you\u2019ll get one point. The person\/team with the most points will be crowned the winner(s). Distribute the worksheet face-down. Give the group the time limit (somewhere between 5-10 minutes depending on your schedule). On \u201cgo\u201d give everyone 5-10 minutes to record their points.<\/p>\n

Winner:<\/strong> When time is up have everyone tally up their points and give the winner(s) a small prize or let them choose something from your Door Prize Basket<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Notes: <\/strong>Before playing you\u2019ll need to figure out if everyone in your group has a smartphone. If not, then you\u2019ll need to play this game in teams. For smaller groups, you could play in teams of 2. For larger groups, have them work together in groups of 4 or less.<\/p>\n

You want them to rush \u2013 some will be savvy and will look over the worksheet realizing that the time given will not be enough time to complete it all. You can clue them in that they may want to look over the sheet and be strategic about which items they search for first.<\/p>\n

This is a great game to play when you want to engage multiple generations<\/a>. Many of your older women may not have a smartphone and will want to partner with the younger and more tech-savvy women in the room.<\/p>\n
