\"A<\/a><\/p>\n

I started a new Bible study at a new church a couple of months ago.<\/p>\n

Our first meeting had the typical \u201cget-to-know-you\u201d activities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But also on the agenda was the\u00a0\u201cCode of Conduct<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

I was both curious and impressed.<\/p>\n

The Women\u2019s Ministry Leader:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Reminded us that what is shared in the Bible study, needs to stay in the Bible study<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Cautioned us not to over-share<\/strong>. IE. Sharing too much about our spouse can create a lot of awkwardness at church the next Sunday.<\/li>\n
  3. Suggested ways to keep our prayer requests from becoming too personal<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cPlease pray for my husband and me as we deal with a parenting issue.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    She also reminded us that women usually process in one of two ways<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Talkers<\/strong> \u2013 Talk through their thoughts and emotions to process ideas. They talk their way to the point. (That\u2019s me!)<\/li>\n
    2. Thinkers<\/strong> \u2013 Take it all in, thinking through their emotions and thoughts before finding the words to share.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      She suggested that the \u201ctalkers\u201d give the \u201cthinkers\u201d time to process and the space to speak up. She also reminded the \u201cthinkers\u201d to be patient with the \u201ctalkers\u201d as they process out loud.<\/p>\n

      I thought this was a great way to discuss group dynamics and encourage the group members to give everyone a chance to share.<\/p>\n

      Sometimes we forget that our women need some gentle reminders.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Some other items you might want to add to your Code of Conduct:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Refrain from using names<\/strong> in prayer requests and discussion.\u00a0Or just use first names. You never know who in the group might know your neighbor, Susie Jones.<\/li>\n
      2. Prayer requests need to be related to your immediate family<\/strong> or phrased in a way that is personal to you \u2013 IE. Please pray for our family as we minister to Jane as she goes through chemo.<\/li>\n
      3. Protect the prayer requests\u00a0shared within\u00a0the group \u2013 do not forward emails<\/strong> and take care to dispose of them properly.<\/li>\n
      4. Refrain from using the names of books, pastors, TV shows, etc.<\/strong> as doing so can be divisive and not Biblically accurate. Our focus should be God\u2019s Word, not the words of others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Distributing your Code of Conduct in writing is another way to make sure your women take it seriously.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        When a new girl<\/a> joins the study make sure you share your Code of Conduct with her too.<\/p>\n

        Codes of Conduct aren\u2019t just for Bible study groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        They should be a part of every small group. Every discussion group. Every breakout group.<\/p>\n

        Your Women\u2019s Ministry\u00a0Team should abide by a Code of Conduct as well.<\/p>\n

        One more note:<\/em> It could be easy to get carried away and\u00a0create a\u00a030 point document – which would not be well received by your ladies.<\/p>\n

        Pray through what guidelines God is leading you to include<\/strong> and make sure you carefully review the wording so that the words come through with the compassion and grace intended.<\/p>\n
