\"Why<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t do White Elephant Exchanges or Dirty Santa games.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to steal someone else\u2019s gift.<\/p>\n

And I\u2019d rather not be the butt of someone\u2019s joke.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure the when or how these games made the cross-over from Christmas office parties to Sunday school fellowships, Youth Group parties, and Women\u2019s Ministry events, but I wish they never had.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Did we somehow forget the 8th commandment, “thou shall not steal”?!\u00a0(See Exodus 20:15.)<\/a><\/p>\n

White elephant and dirty Santa games have no place at our church events.<\/h4>\n

I readily admit I participated in my fair share when I belonged to a mommy group (not church-related) back in the day.<\/p>\n

I have seen grown women cry over gifts that were \u201cstolen\u201d from them.<\/p>\n

I have watched women whimper when a gift they really wanted was taken away.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen moms want to die of embarrassment.<\/p>\n

Friendships were tested.<\/p>\n

And it broke my heart and made me ashamed<\/em> to have been a part of it.<\/p>\n

Our churches should not be a place of embarrassment or intentional hurt.<\/h4>\n

It\u2019s just not worth it for a few laughs.<\/p>\n

No gift is worth making someone feel worthless.<\/p>\n

Whether the goal is stealing gifts to get the best gift or trying to end up with the best of the gag gifts, neither feels very Christ-like.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Games that undermine the unity of our groups or hurt the feelings of our women have no place in our ministries.<\/h5>\n

God\u2019s given us a great opportunity at Christmas to love others. Let’s do it well!<\/p>\n

Consider one of these alternative ideas and promote unity and goodwill among your women.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Check<\/p>\n

12 Alternatives to Dirty Santa Games<\/h4>\n

1. Host a Favorite Things Party<\/strong> \u2013 Pinterest is loaded with ideas. I like the way\u00a0Bri did this with the women at\u00a0her church<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. Give gifts to your homebound Members\/Local Nursing Home\/Women\u2019s Shelter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Ask everyone to bring a $5 gift<\/strong> and use the Left-Right Christmas Story<\/a> or Left Right Nativity\u00a0story<\/a> to distribute the gifts.<\/p>\n

4. Ask everyone to bring a $5 ornament and have an ornament exchange<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

5. Have an Operation Christmas Child Packing Party<\/a><\/strong>, in early November unless you live near a processing center.<\/p>\n

6. Give the gift of time and volunteer together<\/strong> at a local food pantry, shelter, or Ronald McDonald House.<\/p>\n

7, Decorate Christmas cookies or cupcakes<\/strong> to take to the local hospital for the nurses.<\/p>\n

8, Plan a Christmas party for your local Women\u2019s shelter<\/strong> or children\u2019s home and give them each a bag filled with toiletries and treats.<\/p>\n

9. Adopt children in need from a local school.<\/strong> Spend the wrapping their gifts and writing our Christmas cards for them.<\/p>\n

10, Send packages overseas<\/strong> to men and women serving in the military.<\/p>\n

11. Bless a missionary<\/strong> with a care package and Christmas cards.<\/p>\n

12. Assemble\u00a0the Gift of No Dishes<\/a> <\/strong>together as an outreach into each woman’s neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Before you consider me a Scrooge, please take a moment to read the comments women have posted below.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Feelings really do get hurt by white elephant and dirty Santa games.<\/p>\n

It’s not worth the risk.<\/p>\n
