Is your team or small group looking for a mission or service project?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or maybe your group is getting burnt-out on craft projects for themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pillowcase dresses are easy to make and provide a much-needed resource in many countries.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite my lack of sewing ability, several years ago I attended an event at our church to help create pillowcase dresses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don’t sew, have no fear, those who can will, and those who can’t can iron, cut fabric, coordinate ribbon, and fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before I get into the details of the event, I want to share something startling I learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pillowcase dresses provide protection for the girls that receive them.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

“Over one million children in Malawi alone have been orphaned to HIV\/AIDS. Because girl orphans are among the most devalued and abused in their culture, and face such oppression, it is the mission of Little Dresses for Africa to plant in the hearts of these little girls that they are worthy.  It is reported that girls wearing a new little dress are much less likely to be abducted, abused or molested because the new little dress shows that someone cares about them, ” shares the team for Little Dresses for Africa on their website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh. my. goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you ready to protect a young girl? I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So here’s the basics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will need women to:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. Iron pillowcases<\/li>
  2. Cut ribbon ( 2 \u2013 1 yd. pieces per dress)<\/li>
  3. Cut armholes<\/li>
  4. Sew dresses<\/li>
  5. Match ribbon with fabrics<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You will need these supplies:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    1. Pillow cases (thin fabrics not recommended)<\/li>
    2. 5\/8 or 7\/8 spools of patterned, textured ribbon (smooth ribbon will not stay tied)<\/li>
    3. Sewing machines and thread<\/li>
    4. Cutting board \u2013 a rotary cutter makes for easy work<\/li>
    5. Scissors<\/li>
    6. Irons and ironing boards (multiples)<\/li>
    7. Patterns for the arm holes (you can find some here<\/a>)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      You will want to collect pillowcases prior to your event.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Once finished, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
