But they could easily be a project under a women\u2019s ministry program, if the Lord leads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Newborn Baskets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to serving on the women\u2019s ministry team in my local church, I also hold the title of deacon\u2019s wife. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A couple of years ago, our pastor asked the wives of our deacons to come up with a way we can bless new babies in our church family.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Identifying the Need<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As we began working on this project, we realized we would need to establish a way to communicate a need. We average about 500 attendees each weekend between two services. <em>We all know how much trouble asking a woman if she\u2019s pregnant can be!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <strong>Preschool Director lets us know<\/strong> when she finds out about a new pregnancy and the<strong> church admin who coordinates the prayer list<\/strong> sometimes shares birth announcements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basket Distribution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Right now, I\u2019m the central contact person.<strong> When a need is known, I share that information with the other deacon\u2019s wives on a GroupMe thread that we have set up.<\/strong> I post the details and whoever would like to take the basket responds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We store the supplies for these baskets in plastic totes in a closet at church so any of the deacon\u2019s wives can put one together when the need arises. <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Each tote is labeled with reminders of what they need to include in each type of basket. I reorder and refill supplies as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/newborn-basket-2048x1152.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s in the newborn baskets?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We use <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4e08i47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">plastic storage baskets<\/a> lined with tissue paper to deliver these 6 things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A baby board book \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4hjgQG8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Psalm 23<\/a> (about colors)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A custom-printed diaper bag tag (it\u2019s really a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vistaprint.com\/promotional-products\/leisure\/travel-essentials\/full-color-luggage-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">luggage tag<\/a>) that has our church logo and the words \u201cloves me\u201d beneath the logo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3UlgSmJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">white onesie<\/a> with our church logo and the words \u201cloves me\u201d printed on them in a gender-neutral color.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The book <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YxByur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">5 Things to Pray for Your Kids<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A packet of scripture prayer cards (I recommend using a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/40zxuLN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">handful of these<\/a>.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3BVAIyN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">baby-theme congratulations card<\/a> (we sign the cards with our church\u2019s name)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>We typically try to reach out to the new mom after things have quieted down a bit. If preferred, we\u2019ll do a porch drop off, but we love to offer to stop in for a visit. Sometimes we\u2019re able to rock the baby for a bit or help out in some way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women in our church have loved these newborn baskets! It\u2019s a great way for our church to celebrate with each family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grief Baskets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While we were only asked to deliver newborn baskets, we approached our pastor about also doing grief baskets. He thought it was a great idea and had a book suggestion for us to include. As you might imagine, <strong>we distribute a lot more grief baskets than we do newborn basket<\/strong>s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While both baskets celebrate life, grief baskets require a bit more finesse.<\/strong> Everyone handles grief differently. <strong>Most of the time, we drop grief baskets off on the porch.<\/strong> A personal connection helps us to get in the door and offer our condolences in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like with the newborn baskets, I work with our church admin and keep on eye on the prayer list for grief basket needs. She\u2019s often able to share more information that helps with the delivery. <strong>Typically, we limit grief baskets to the loss of a spouse, parent, or child.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/grief-basket-2048x1152.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do we include in the grief baskets?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Journal (two options, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3C7cSQv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">one for women<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4hkLSx5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">one for men<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grief book \u2013 Pastor has recommended <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/48l4nh5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Red Sea Rules<\/a>. Sometimes we include <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NBkRYI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Life Can Be Good&nbsp; Again<\/a> (especially good for widows). You\u2019ll see some additional grief book suggestions including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/shop\/wmtoolbox\/list\/2S6U23RVY3PNQ?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_Z7TB49XPFBE4FFPX3ZVZ_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">some for children here<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4e01rr6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Candle<\/a> (not always for the men)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4&#215;6 <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/48gB5A7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">framed <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/store.notconsumed.com\/collections\/scripture-cards-collection\/products\/notconsumed-scripture-cards?variant=39373383630944&amp;aff=450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">scripture verse from Not Consumed <\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YieDlp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Healthy snacks<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3BVFTPf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Sympathy card<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You could also include tissues. Books can get expensive quickly. I order several when I see a good sale. Like the newborn baskets, all of the items are placed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YxBXNk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">plastic wicker basket<\/a> lined with tissue paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Miscarriages<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, we\u2019ve had the need to deliver a couple of miscarriage baskets. Often we don\u2019t know, but when we do, we try to love our ladies well. The miscarriage baskets contain two books, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NDHxrc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Held<\/a> (for the moms) and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NE6QJY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Ours <\/a>(for the father). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can purchase <a href=\"https:\/\/solagratia.co\/collections\/miscarriage\/miscarriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beautiful prints and notecards<\/a> from Sola Gratia Co. that acknowledge miscarriages. Be sure to read the story about the watercolor heart that dried and looks like a baby in the womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Romans 12:15 reminds us to \u201cRejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.\u201d These newborn and grief baskets provide a way for us to do just that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We rejoice over new life and we weep with those grieving.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m grateful for the opportunities God has given us to love the people in our church. Our pastor has received lots of positive feedback about our deliveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to invite you to prayerfully consider if and how newborn and grief baskets could be a way your church loves well. Again, this might not be done through the arm of your women\u2019s ministry program. It may be a better fit for a care ministry or another group such as the deacon\u2019s wives.
