{"id":11475,"date":"2020-09-08T09:45:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T13:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/?p=11475"},"modified":"2020-11-06T10:12:54","modified_gmt":"2020-11-06T15:12:54","slug":"womens-ministry-through-small-group-meetings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/womens-ministry-through-small-group-meetings\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Offer Women&#8217;s Ministry Through Small Group Meetings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/How-to-Offer-Womens-Ministry-Through-Small-Group-Meetings-1.png\" alt=\"Move forward with women's ministry activities this fall by offering a variety of different types of small groups. \" class=\"wp-image-11481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/How-to-Offer-Womens-Ministry-Through-Small-Group-Meetings-1.png 600w, https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/How-to-Offer-Womens-Ministry-Through-Small-Group-Meetings-1-200x300.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For many of us, large group events will be few and far between on our women\u2019s ministry calendar for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Smaller groups are going to be critical in keeping your women&#8217;s ministry going in this season.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While I love big events and will miss the sound of so many voices praising our Lord together, <strong>I believe small groups will be a blessing and benefit to our ministries \u2013 if we embrace them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I suggest offering four small group meeting options:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Outdoor<\/li><li>Inside church<\/li><li>Inside homes<\/li><li>Online only<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Different women will feel comfortable in different spaces.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t assume you know what your women need. Take a survey to get a clear picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be tempting to be frustrated by the task of organizing multiple small groups to meet the diverse needs of your women. <strong>The extra effort your team makes will communicate to each woman that they matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Small group meeting options may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bible study or discipleship groups<\/li><li>Interest groups<\/li><li>Fellowship groups<\/li><li>Home-based groups<\/li><li>Service project groups<\/li><li>Prayer groups<\/li><li>Care groups<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely your team will need to offer <em>every<\/em> type of small group meeting option; however, <strong>a good mix will ensure the greatest number of women participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a closer look at the different types of small group meetings. <em>I\u2019m praying God will highlight the ones the women in your church need.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bible Study or Discipleship Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you do nothing else this fall, please provide opportunities for your women to get in the Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could choose a Bible study book (<a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/bible-study-books-reviews-and-recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see some of my recommendations here<\/a>) or you could invite your women to study a book of the Bible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/read-bible-study-for-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">READ Bible Study Kit for Groups <\/a>provides everything you need to lead your group through a book of the Bible. The weekly worksheets guide women through the steps of record, explore, apply, and do. Women love the discussion time. You\u2019ll be amazed at the growth you witness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interest Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interest groups provide another connection point for your women as those with the <strong>same interests gather together<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interest groups:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Enable your team to offer activities that appeal to a smaller segment of your women<\/li><li>Allow women with specific passions to serve as leaders<\/li><li>Encourage fellowship while participating in an activity or hobby<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of interest groups include walking, knitting, scrapbooking, hiking, cooking, painting, board games, empty nesters, and book clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logistically you\u2019ll need to <strong>create a sign-up sheet<\/strong> that offers a listing of interest groups as well as a choice of meeting locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d suggest only moving forward with groups that have five or more women interested in meeting. If one or two are absent, that lessens the likelihood that only one person will show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fellowship Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another idea for gathering women is to <strong>assign them to small fellowship groups. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many years ago, our women\u2019s ministry team created <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/sister-six\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Sister Six groups<\/strong><\/a>. Six women met together for six months. Women took turns hosting the monthly get together and selecting the month&#8217;s activity. You can find additional information on how to run a <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/sister-six\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sister Six program here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Home-based Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another possibility for small groups in this season is to have women <strong>gather in homes to participate in a bigger event.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your team might be able to stream or record teaching sessions for a conference or retreat. Women would gather to watch and discuss the material together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simulcasts would work well in a home-based group format. <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/host-a-movie-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Movie nights<\/a> would be another option. Or utilize the materials for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifgathering.com\/host-if-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IF:Tables<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another fun, home-based group idea is <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/fellowship-idea-guess-whos-coming-to-dinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Guess who\u2019s coming to dinner?<\/strong> <\/a>You may want to provide catered food or ask everyone to bring their own meal. Or skip the food altogether and host Guess who\u2019s coming to game night? For more details, check out the post <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/fellowship-idea-guess-whos-coming-to-dinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guess who\u2019s coming to dinner?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service Project Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your church staff may be aware of some needs at parachurch ministries. You may have senior adults in your neighborhood that need someone to rack leaves or do some light cleaning. Your local food bank may need volunteers to come and sort food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You could pick one group to invest in regularly and build relationships, or you could select a different project for each meeting<\/strong>, spreading the love of Christ and resources around your community. For additional service project ideas, <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/60-service-project-ideas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">check out this post.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prayer Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My participation in a prayer group many years ago fueled my spiritual growth in ways I never imagined. Those weekly meetings anchored my soul. Perhaps your women need an anchor right now too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Provide an opportunity for women to pray together. <\/strong>This group could easily meet via conference call or Zoom if they prefer not to meet in person. You\u2019ll find information on <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/how-to-start-a-prayer-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How to Start a Prayer Group here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider offering a <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/prayer-warrior-boot-camp-for-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prayer Warrior Boot Camp<\/a> workshop to help women learn to pray out loud before launching your prayer groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Care Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sending cards, making phone calls, and providing prayer<\/strong> could be some of the tasks performed by care groups. Unlike Secret Sisters, where gifts are often the focus, care groups offer <strong>spiritual support and encouragement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Implement Successful Small Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Every group will need a leader <\/strong>to keep the group moving forward and provide some structure. You may find co-leaders with defined roles work better for some small groups. Depending on the types of small groups you\u2019re offering, you may want to provide a time of training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There\u2019s usually no need for small group leaders to serve on the women\u2019s ministry team<\/strong> \u2013 it\u2019s one more responsibility that may deter a woman from serving. Keep in touch with them via email, offering prayer and support, if it is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be sure to publicize your small group options. <\/strong>Women can\u2019t come if they don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening! Utilize your <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/womens-ministry-email-list-service-options\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">email list,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/facebook-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook group<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/womensministrytoolbox.com\/womens-ministry-social-media-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media<\/a> to help get the word out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the absence of large group events, small group options will provide an avenue for your women to stay connected, grow in relationship with one another, and remain yoked to the church in the months ahead.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping the doors closed on women\u2019s ministry activities and events this fall could have dire consequences. If women feel their needs are not being met, they will look elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Lord, help us to be creative and flexible in the ways we support and serve our women in the months ahead.
