Last week we examined the 11 benefits of using a vetted, professional speaker<\/a> for your women\u2019s ministry event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

While some events may lend themselves to bringing in a professional speaker, other events are best suited for in-house speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It bears repeating that both are good choices! As your team plans and prays, discuss which would be best for each event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is an in-house speaker?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An in-house speaker is a church member who delivers a message or teaching based on God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike a professional speaker, she probably doesn\u2019t have any formal speaker training yet. Though it may be apparent to many, that God has given her this gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She should be someone who is spiritually mature, actively serves in the church, and regularly studies God\u2019s Word.  There should be evidence that what she may share will be theologically sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is always best to get the approval of your Pastor on any woman you ask to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 Benefits of Using an In-House Speaker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1. She may be a more budget-friendly option.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While you should still pay your in-house speakers, professional speakers tend to be more expensive.<\/strong> There\u2019s also no need to arrange for travel expenses, airfare, hotel rooms, meals, etc. For more information on speaker fees check out the Women\u2019s Ministry Event Planning 101 online course<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Your audience won\u2019t need as much time to warm up.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Assuming this is a well-known woman in your church, your in-house speaker won\u2019t need to spend as much time warming up the crowd, sharing background information, and building rapport.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. They are familiar with the teachings of your church and denomination.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If she has been actively attending and serving in your church for a while her teaching is likely to be in alignment with your church\u2019s beliefs.<\/strong> (This doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t ask for an outline, you should.) She knows the church lingo and which Bible study version to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. They know the audience.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

They are aware of the current struggles and spiritual level of your women<\/strong>. If there\u2019s been a rift or recent tragedy, they know the details and can navigate them with care. They know many of the women by name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. It may make your event an \u201ceasy sell.\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

She may already be popular among your women. Women may eagerly sign-up for the event because they love Pam and know she\u2019s a great teacher and speaker. Her reputation alone may sell tickets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. They\u2019ll be able to comment on shared experiences.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

They may weave stories into their talk from other women\u2019s ministry events, sermons, and church functions. They\u2019ll be able to use real-life examples of people and local places most of the women will know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. You\u2019re providing an opportunity for women to use their spiritual gifts.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

God has given some of your women the gift of teaching. A woman\u2019s home church should be the place in which she first uses and refines that gift.<\/strong> Give her room to practice and refine her craft. Be a launching point and support for what God is going to do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. They may seem more relatable.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A professional speaker, especially one who has achieved some level of fame, may carry a bit of Christian celebrity status. On the other hand, your in-house speaker may be perceived as the girl-next-door.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. She\u2019s more accessible.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It will likely be a bit easier to plan and communicate with her about the event since she attends the church. (Though don\u2019t hound her every weekend between services!) She\u2019ll also be able to continue relationships<\/strong> built with women after the event in real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. You know what you\u2019re getting.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve had the opportunity to see her in action as a speaker at another event, Bible study teacher, or small group leader you\u2019re familiar with her personality and teaching style. There\u2019s a level of comfort<\/strong> to be had in having a previous relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you plan your events for the year, I want to encourage you to include professional and in-house speakers.<\/strong> Your women will benefit from both!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may even find you want to use a combination<\/strong> for a large event such as a women\u2019s ministry retreat or women\u2019s ministry conference. You may choose to have the keynotes delivered by a professional speaker and the workshops by women in-house. Workshops are a great training ground for women who feel called to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All speakers spend a great deal of time in prayer and preparation for your event. If paying a church member to speak is frowned upon (ask your Pastor), then consider a generous gift card to someplace you know they\u2019d enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
