Book Review: Disciple Her<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, I\u2019m sharing about Kandi Gallaty\u2019s newly released book, Disciple Her: Using the Word, Work, and Wonder of God to Invest in Women<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disciple Her<\/em><\/a> shares how to create discipleship groups for the women in your church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kandi\u2019s discipleship approach focuses on \u201cspending time in the Word of God, memorizing it, journaling, holding one another accountable, and praying together.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Disciple Her<\/a><\/em>, Kandi begins by laying the foundation for discipleship. What is it? Why is it important? How do we see Jesus model discipleship?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discipleship is defined by Kandi as \u201cintentionally equipping believers with the Word of God through accountable relationships empowered by the Holy Spirit in order to replicate faithful followers of Christ.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kandi and her husband, Robby Gallaty, have refined this process of discipleship over the course of many years and many churches. They call this process D-groups or discipleship groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D-groups are groups of 3-5 men or women (single-gender groups) that meet weekly for 12-18 months. Together they read the Bible, journal, pray, memorize scripture, and share their testimonies, all with the intention and expectation that those in the group will lead a new group at the end of their time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two goals of D-groups are spiritual growth and replication.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kandi shares in great detail how you might want to structure your weekly meetings. She also shares tips and encouragement for lovingly holding group members accountable to the covenant they have signed (covenant examples are included in the book).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disciple Her<\/a><\/em> is a fairly quick read, one that you\u2019ll be able to implement almost immediately. Kandi does an excellent job of not over-complicating the discipleship process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar in many ways to the READ Bible study format<\/a>, I appreciate that the focus is always on God\u2019s Word<\/strong>. The Bible is the textbook and the focus on the discussion and journaling. We both long for women \u201cto walk away with a love for God\u2019s Word.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may be wondering, how is this any different than small groups, Life groups, Sunday school, Bible class,  Bible study groups, or even weekly worship?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While those are all good and necessary, Kandi explains:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  1. Every D-group member is an active participant<\/strong>. There is no sitting and listening to someone else teaching.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. D-groups are always gender-specific<\/strong> with 3-6 participants, unlike other groups that are usually larger and co-ed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. D-groups are exclusively for believers<\/strong>, whereas the others are usually not.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. There is a greater level of accountability<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
